End of September

Take time for a nap, and to smell the flowers!

Found this butterfly on the ground near my front door. It must have just emerged, because the wings were still limp. Given a twig to climb up on, it did so, and I put it in the lilac bush, where it hung on and hung it's wings to 'dry'. By evening it was about ready to fly. We did a little research and found it's a black swallowtail, female.  I posted pictures of the caterpillar, below, on 8/29. Her wingspan is about four and a half inches.

So here we are, at the end of August!

A butterfly before wings.  Bunny in begonias.  An interesting little 'fly?' on the alyssum. Spearmint blooms, 'enhanced'.

Bees and Butterflies, many kinds of butterflies in the yard this week.

If Trees Could Talk....

If Only
If trees could talk, their stories tell
Of seasons, decades, witnessed well:
Of love and joy, of grief and strife;
Of birth and growth, of death and life;
Of hopes and dreams: what might have been;
Of those who built, and built again;
Of those who passed, and what befell...
Ah, to hear what trees could tell.
...by Vada Dolph....

This magnificent ancient tree was already providing shade for all who passed by, when the first white settlers arrived in Kentucky, and established a fort in 1774, now known as Harrodsburg.  The restored site of Fort Harrod is a state park, a living history museum.

Aw Gosh, it's August, Aw-ready

See De Bees on th' Anemones....
Some of these pictures were edited with PhotoScape, a free program downloaded from online, which has lots of great features. Be sure to click on each, to view full size. (well, a little bit bigger. Not my largest file size, so they will pop up  quickly here, for everyone.)

Puppy Love and light rays

Kathy's 'baby', Velvet, is learning her manners.  She is a 'parti- colored' Standard Poodle. She is about 4 months old now. Very smart, sweet, well-mannered, and growing fast. She will be a big girl when fully grown!!

Woodford count courthouse

I love it---the total cost of the original courthouse---$22.50!

I will have to take another walk downtown and get pictures of the courthouse, and other buildings along Main Street, Versailles, KY.

Only in Kentucky---it's pronounced: Ver-sales ,   but the towns in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, and in France are Ver-sye. Well, that's your bit of trivia for today.

A day for Art in the Park

Big Spring Park is at the bottom of the hill, in the center of Versailles, and about 2 blocks away from my house. Here are some random images from a couple of 'passes through' during the day. About 40 local artists and vendor participated. Some of my dolls were included in the stall set up by Joyce and Wendy's Truly Bluegrass Arts and Gift shop.  The doll, 'Art in the Park' was sold in the silent auction at the fundraiser event on Friday evening

And now, the photographer takes a little digital  "artistic license"  with this last one. A 'goofed setting' of the camera produced a very bad tint to a mediocre shot, so it was fair game to play around with. I think it captures the mood very well, this way.
